Ithoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent with my teacher, Ileana. I was struggling with learning the language, and she was constantly thinking of new challenges and ways to assist me in my learning. Ileana was patient, conscientious, and supportive. She is an excellent teacher and I would unhesitatingly recommend her to anyone serious about learning Spanish. Lazaro was also very generous and helpful, assisting me with things such as getting a sim card for my phone - something that is quite tricky when you only have minimal language skills.
I would recommend the Oaxaca Immersion School of Language, and their one-on-one mode of delivery is a fantastic kick-start into learning a new language.

Lazaro and Jacob were both exceptional in their lessons and service, providing instruction tailored to my needs with innovative lessons that enabled me to engage the public with subjects of personal interest. I never felt unequipped to move beyond my comfort level when practicing with others between lessons. They also know their city and are eager to share it; I learned much about various sites and made connections with organizations through their extra efforts. Their attention to my personal needs made me feel as part of a family. An excellent program!

I really enjoyed my weeks with Jonathan. Jonathan was extremely patient with me as I progressed in my Spanish. He did a good job of varying the lesson plans so that I was not doing the same thing each day. Our conversational topics varied from local traditions, to sports, to music, to current events; all the while patiently guiding me towards a better understanding of Spanish. Jonathan was responsive to my needs as a learner and was willing to adjust his plans to fit what was important to me at the time of the lesson. Even if it meant accompanying me on a shopping excursion to find a mattress cover! Thank you Jonathan and Oaxaca Immersion for a wonderful learning experience!

"If you are thinking about learning Spanish in Mexico, Oaxaca’s Spanish Immersion School is the best thing to happen to language instruction since sliced bread – or handmade tortillas by the kilo. The school’s founder and director, Lázaro Rojas Rodriguez, is an enthusiastic, full-service bundle of bilingual energy. He met me at Oaxaca’s airport and until the moment he sent me off, he was right on top of all my needs. And the classes are great. I opted for a specialized course in medical conversation (I’m a psychotherapist) and for an unbelievably low price I got extensive grammar in the morning from Lázaro, then psychology vocab in the afternoon from his teammate Jacob, an intelligent, witty teacher who went out of his way to put together a custom curriculum that helped me help my clients. The best thing of all is that Lázaro and Jacob don’t waste your time in classrooms with videos or death-by-PowerPoint. All your classes will be held in tranquil outdoor plazas, ex-cloister courtyards, authentic Oaxacan markets, cafes … even the back of a collective taxi (if you want!). That way you get to interact with real Mexican culture and practice your Spanish in real time, real life situations”. ¡Bueníssimo!

“My classes with Lazaro have made me feel much more confident in my abilities to speak and understand Spanish. He is incredibly patient and is willing to tailor the classes to fit my schedule. Our various excursions to the outlying pueblas have enriched my understanding of the beautiful culture of Oaxaca. I would highly recommend studying with Lazaro and the Spanish Immersion School!”

“If you’re looking for a relaxed class environment taken at your own pace, Oaxaca Immersion School’s staff are helpful and friendly. Perfect for anyone travelling through or anyone who may have recently moved here, they have a great knowledge of Oaxaca and Mexican culture in general.”

” My Spanish classes with Lazaro were always fun and challenging . the one-on-one classes were often outside. overlooking some of the many beautiful sites. Lazaro is extremely professional and yet charismatic and fun to talk with. He also offers fun, cultural excursions outside of the city while learning Spanish.”

“Lazaro the best teacher ever.”

My boyfriend and I visited Oaxaca in December – what a beautiful city! Gorgeous cobblestone streets, lots of restaurants and bars, friendly people – surrounded by mountains, very picturesque. It is safe and easy to walk around – a definite must visit place if you are going to Mexico. While we were there a good friend living in Oaxaca recommended we take a tour with Lazaro from Spanish School in Mexico. It was a really great experience. Lazaro and his colleague picked us up from our place in the morning and then we drove up into the mountains. We visited three different indigenous towns – a traditional medicine centre, artisans and also a river, where they had a restaurant where we had fresh trout. Lazaro and his colleague both spoke English fluently and we learnt a lot about Mexico and Oaxaca. Lazaro is very easy going and it felt like we were travelling with a friend rather than tourists – would highly recommend it !
